Green screening 3D objects and first scene

I used a green background in Maya to render a number of objects so I could key the colour out in After Effects to make the rendering time quicker and more efficient.
For this scene I rendered two separate versions of my model and they would be talking to each other on board the ship before the robot entered the test room.
I felt this made me capable to make a scene that could be more detailed than the others and push the story along but also not spend a long time rendering.
I made the leader of this robotic army a red colour as that is a colour of authority or power and I planned beforehand where each robot would stand before rendering so I could composite into the other footage correctly.

Green screening

I used a green background on my next few Maya animations to composite it straight into my space ship animations with no difficulty, my laptop is in the workshop atm getting the fan fixed so will upload this work later.

Test Room

When my character enters the virtual test room to train for military service on board her ship I wanted there to be a futuristic style loading screen to show that she was being uploaded into this setup. I kept it quite simple and minimilistic and I was inspired by the art of Borderlands 2, TRON and The Matrix.

I made a very basic model in Maya but used toon shaders and transparency maps to make it look more dynamic, I was very happy with how it looked.

I then had to move it into after effects and work on it some more.

I then made a loading bar which would spread across the screen, I also recorded the sound of me typing on my keyboard to add sound effects to this part of the animation.

Fully Rendered start of animation

Due to the change in direction I have made a new start to the animation which now has a different story. The animation will start with the space shuttle of the cyborg and she is being put through tests before continuing onto her conquest of earth. I used Maya and After Effects to make this I used the paint effects and some moody lighting to create the bit of space I am using and all the models in it are green screened into that footage with After Effects.

I decided to keep everything quite simple as I still have a lot to do and wanted to get started on the next animation of the robot.

Screen shots of before and after adding the models in to the footage.

Test Animation 2

New part of animation

I wanted this part of the animation to be more vibrant to show there is more action involved so I used lighter colors and more movement.

I wanted the camera angle to have both models in view from the start but the camera to show more of the cyborgs body than the last animation and I wanted to donate a lot of the screen to the truck to fully show off the model and ensuing explosion.
Originally I had planned for the laser beam to come from the hands of the cyborg but ended up using the head as I got inspiration from an episode of dragonball where a character does a similar move and I felt that fitted the animation well.
I wanted the explosion to be colorful and vibrant, unfortunately this explosion effect I made in Maya did not render out properly and I ended up making a different one with particle effects and a fluid emitter and green screening it in to the finished animation.

New Prop Lorry

The next prop after the lamborghini to be destroyed will be a 3D cel shaded lorry here is a screenshot of me texturing it in Maya and then a rendered image of the final product.
